Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Emissions reduction targets
In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets:
•We will continue to reduce air travel wherever possible. Between 2022 and 2023 we reduced our Scope 3 emissions by 16.4 tCO2e and we will continue this trend where possible in 2024.
• Our Scope 2 emissions have increased slightly between 2022 and 2023. This is directly associated with increased use of electricity for heating and rendering in the office. We will continue to focus on reducing the amount of electricity used to heat and cool the office wherever possible, as well as look at other possible options for rendering. This should help halt the increase in our Scope 2 emissions.
• Our continued support of Tree Aid will mean that any carbon produced by us directly will be offset and our support over the last five years should now see projects (and trees!) maturing.
• We will ensure our supply chain is reducing its carbon footprint by adding clauses to our supplier contract.
We project that carbon emissions will decrease to 60 tCO2e by 2028. This is a reduction of 30% on our 2023 emissions figure. Our ability to reach net zero by 2030 is totally reliant on our control of Scope 3 emissions and this will be a focus of the next four years. Also our continued support of Tree Aid will ensure that each year we continue to remove carbon dioxide from the air, as well as supporting vulnerable communities on the front line of climate change.
Declaration and sign off
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans. Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting.
Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard. This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors (or equivalent management body).
