3D promotional animation created for Hicomply, to showcase their platform. Designed, animated and produced by Dreaming Fish Productions.
The project
Hicomply are a UK based software for cyber governance, risk & compliance company, based in Durham and last year, they contacted us with a brief for a new promotional animation that would highlight their platform/services. After a few calls with Adam and the Hicomply team, chatting about their video needs in more detail, we knew exactly what they wanted and we got excited about kicking off this project together. Having looked at Hicomply’s website and their brand guidelines, we knew that a 3D style would work perfectly for their promotional animation as 3D shapes is a strong visual element within their brand language.
Design and styleframes
Once the script was approved and signed off, we got to work on designing some styleframes and storyboards to give the team at Hicomply an idea of what their video would look like. This step is essential in any animation project as we can only start animating once the client is entirely happy with everything they see. At this stage, it’s also easier to make any amends as we haven’t yet started animating. Speaking about the designs for this video, here are some words from our lovely Motion Graphics Designer, Josh🖌️: “The idea for the animation was to create a simple representation of the platform, but brought to life in 3D. The features of the platforms dashboard easing into place around a built up environment, to show the simplicity of bringing all the connections together in an easy manner. The blue line throughout takes the user through the journey and guides them from scene to scene.”

FAQs about 3D video production
Why choose 3D over 2D animation?
3D animation can take you places where 2D animation just can’t! Being able to model and then animate your products allows you to do things with them that you can’t with live-action or 2D animation. Think about TV commercials for make-up, electrical, food or household products for example, chances are these products are actually animated in 3D! Pretty cool, right? And it’s not just useful for products, the uses for 3D are really endless! Fancy learning more? Get in touch with us today.
How does 3D animation work?
The process for creating 3D animation is very similar to that of 2D animation. One of the major differences is the design stage. Much more time is needed to plan design, model and rig the products, characters and/or environments that are needed. Once the design stage is complete, we then move onto storyboarding and at this stage, we often create a more detailed board which will include designs that will feature in the final animation. Once design and storyboarding is complete, the animation stage can start. After this, the process of rendering begins and the time required for this can vary depending on the complexity of the animation. This process can often take days rather than hours, but the finished result is truly astonishing! 3D animation is often created in programmes like Cinema 4D (which is what we use at DreamingFish), Autodesk Maya and 3D Studio Max and more!
