The ‘Big Give’ project
The Big Give Green Match Fund is an online seven-day campaign that provides match funding to support environmental charities operating across various charitable sectors in the UK and internationally. This year, Tree Aid have been selected again to take part and we’re delighted to support them on their endeavours. From 12pm, 22nd April, Tree Aid have just one week to raise £144,000 to help communities across the drylands of Africa restore their land and build sustainable futures. And here’s the best part: every donation made will be doubled! That means that donations will be matched, pound for pound, until 12 pm on 29th April, or until they reach their goal.
Gifty’s story 🌱
As part of this campaign, Nia, from the Tree Aid team reached out to us for some editing support and we jumped at the chance to help. The short campaign film we edited tells the story of Gifty, a woman from Northern Ghana, and how her life has improved with the support of Tree Aid. Shea Trees grow in West Africa and their nuts are used to make shea butter, a process which offers steady income to local and rural women. However, making shea butter by hand is very hard work and labour-intensive, especially without the right equipment and can often take three days to make one batch!
With the help and support of Tree Aid, Gifty has gained access to specialist equipment, training and support from other local women. Now, she is able to work much faster; making up to three bags of nuts per day (instead of one) and therefore increasing her productivity and income. Tree Aid’s support has allowed Gifty to provide more for her family and has helped her to make more friendships, whilst also building up her confidence.
