Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust | Internal strategy film

FHFT cover

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust approached DreamingFish last year with a clear and ambitious brief: to commission an impactful, inspiring and emotionally engaging 90-second film that would introduce their FHFT 2030 strategy to patients, the local community, staff and partners. The video needed to do more than just explain the strategy, it had to build awareness of Frimley Health’s long term vision, inspire action and create excitement about the future of healthcare within the Trust. It needed to leave viewers feeling optimistic, reassured and confident in Frimley Health’s ability to deliver on its plans; reinforcing trust at a time when clarity and connection matter more than ever.

With our extensive experience of working within the healthcare sector, this project immediately stood out to us. It was clear this video was an opportunity to create something meaningful and we were excited to pitch for it.

With a clear brief in place and following a series of collaborative conversations with the Frimley Health team, we got started on production. To reinforce the community approach, Frimley Health wanted to feature all three of Frimley Health’s main hospital sites within the film: Frimley Park, Heatherwood and Wexham Park. Showcasing these multiple locations not only helped ground the film in real places (which felt familiar to viewers) but it also reinforced the scale and reach of the Trust and its commitment to care across the different locations.

To bring each location to life, we worked with Frimley Health to carefully crafted three distinct patient led scenarios, each representing a different stage of life and type of care. An older man receiving treatment at Frimley Park helped set a reflective and reassuring tone, a woman attending a gynaecology appointment at Heatherwood, highlighted specialist and compassionate care, while a child (accompanied by his mother) in the paediatric ward at Wexham Park captured warmth, trust and hope for the future. Together, these stories created a balanced and relatable snapshot of healthcare experiences across the Trust.

We sourced local talent and worked closely with FH to shortlist actors who felt genuine, relatable and representative of the community. In addition, we also featured real healthcare staff as extras throughout the films, ensuring the environment felt genuine and real. By doing so, this not only added credibility, but also subtly celebrated the people at the heart of Frimley Health’s services. By combining real locations, authentic performances and thoughtful storytelling, we were able to create a film that felt grounded, human and reflective of the communities Frimley Health serves, while looking ahead to the future envisioned by FHFT 2030.

To ensure the production process and filming ran smoothly, our videographer, Duncan, storyboarded the video. This not only gave the FH team a clear vision of how the final piece would come together, but it allowed us to work efficiently, ensuring we captured every required shot when it came to filming. Filming took place over a fast paced two day shoot, spanning multiple locations and several wardrobe changes to support the different patient stories, and to show passing of time. Despite the complexity of the filming schedule, the production ran smoothly due to careful planning and close coordination with the FH team.

As we were filming within real hospital environments, we were mindful of patients and staff. We kept our kit deliberately minimal to avoid unnecessary disruption, which also enabled us to move swiftly between locations and maintain a calm and respectful presence throughout the shoot; ensuring patient care always remained the priority.

The final deliverables were 1x main hero film and 3x standalone edits; each focusing on one of the individual patient stories. This approach allowed Frimley Health to use the content freely across multiple channels, while ensuring each story could stand alone with its own emotional impact and relevance to different audiences. It was an absolute pleasure working in partnership with the Frimley Health team on such an important strategy film. A huge thank you to all the volunteers, staff and talent for bringing the FHFT 2030 story to life.

“I would like to say a massive thank you for your fabulous work. Thank you so much for being so adaptable and being so very wonderful to work with.”

How long does the process of creating a healthcare video take?

The production timeline varies depending on the complexity and scope of your project. Once we know more about your requirements, we’ll create a detailed production plan for your project. Typically, a live-action video may take between 2-4 weeks from concept to delivery, while explainers and more complex 3D animations may take slightly longer (4-9weeks). Have a deadline in mind? Let us know and we’ll work with you to establish realistic timelines.

Is animation or live-action better for healthcare videos?

Both approaches have their strengths and we’ll work with you to decide which one resonates best with your target audience. Animation is brilliant for explaining complex medical processes, procedures, or pharmaceutical mechanisms that are difficult to film. Live-action, on the other hand, is perfect for showcasing real healthcare settings or building emotional connections with your audience. Many of our clients find that a combination of both works wonderfully. Check out our portfolio to see examples of each approach in action.
