Silent Pool | Brand film x 3D animation

Silent Pool is a distiller located in Surrey that distills gin, vodka and other spirits. For this wonderful project we were commissioned by NRG Digital to work as an extension of their team to create the 3D aroma world elements for the Silent Pool Spring Aroma T5 campaign.

The team at NRG created a storyboard which included a 3D sequence which would illustrate the aroma of the botanicals infused into the gin. The sequence begins with zooming into a single bubble that transports the viewer into the aroma world. The world is illustrated by atmospheric coloured smoke (aromas) and at the head of these smoke trails are the botanical flavours waiting to be unleashed as they crash into each other, releasing the flavour profile of Silent Pool Gin. This sequence would be created using 3D animation and the DreamingFish team began work on prototyping different approaches to creating coloured smoke which could be emitted realistically from the 3D animated bubbles. Both teams worked closely together to ensure the filming of the live botanicals would work in the 3D animated world. 

Our Animation Team Lead, James,  says β€œWe spent a lot of time prototyping how to work with volumes and particle simulations to get the right balance of realistic flowing smoke and the ethereal look that was required for the video. Once we had completed the groundwork, we went to work getting the balance right between the contrast and airiness required to create an authentic Silent Pool feel, tricky when the smoke needed to form backgrounds, trails and also to burst when the bubbles collided. This was the most difficult part, getting the lighting right and also the transmission of light through the clouds, defining shapes and keeping the colours correct. Once all the scenes had been created there was the challenge of rendering each out at the required resolution. The final film was required in 4K but to save time we rendered each scene at 1080p and then upscaled the footage to 4K using AI.” Check out a few stills from the brand film below! 🍊🌺
