Autumn Migrants and Owls π¦π
Surrey Uncommon is back! This latest episode brings together the best of late autumn and early winter in Surrey, covering the wildlife highlights. We begin episode 2 of Surrey Uncommon with an early morning visit to Chobham Common, arriving at dawn as the landscape slowly comes to life. Joined by local birder and wildlife photographer Mark Leitch, we search the skies and scrub for autumn migrant birds, learning what makes this incredible heathland such an important refuge at this time of year.π¦πΏπ₯Ύπ·
Later, we head to Papercourt Meadows, where Mark guides us through the quiet magic of sunset. With the light dropping and temperatures falling, our focus turns to one of winterβs most captivating sights: owls. Itβs a peaceful end to a day spent immersed in Surreyβs lesser-seen wild moments. It’s a perfect reminder of how special these landscapes are, even in the depths of winter.
A huge thank you to Mark for generously sharing his time, stunning photographs and expertise throughout this episode. Weβre also grateful to Surrey County Council and the team at βͺSurrey Wildlife Trust for their support with this monthβs video. Our extended thanks also goes to Horsell Common Preservation Society, Thames Basin Heaths Partnership, and Chris Southwell for the wonderful intro music. π§πΆ
