Thumbs up or thumbs down?
The Google owned online video sharing and social media platform, YouTube, hosts billions of videos worldwide everyday. But, did you know that it is estimated that over 500 hours of content is uploaded to the platform, every minute of every day? Amongst these uploads, there are many liked and loved videos as well as some highly disliked ones. In this blog, we will share some of the most disliked videos with you (numbers and all!) and you can decide if you’d give the videos a thumbs up or a thumbs down…
As of January 2022, the most disliked video on YouTube is actually one of their own. Titled “YouTube Rewind 2018: Everyone Controls Rewind”, the video was supposed to help audiences look back at 2018 through the perspective of different celebrities and influencers. However, unfortunately, viewers didn’t take too kindly to what they considered “cringe content” filled with unpopular YouTubers and unpopular or outdated trends. People hated it so much that over 20 million audience members took to the dislike button to show their dissatisfaction! This not only makes the 2018 Rewind the most disliked non-music video on YouTube, but it is also the video with the most dislikes in general…making it the most disliked YouTube video of all time! Previous winners of the ‘Most Disliked Video on YouTube’ title include Justin Bieber’s 2010 music video for “Baby” along with Rebecca Black’s “Friday” 2011 music video…ouch!
The most disliked music video
Perhaps this most disliked music video won’t come as a major surprise to you…Whether you’re a parent to young kids or not, chances are you’ve definitely heard of “Baby Shark Dance” by Pinkfong Kids’ Songs and Stories. The children’s song gets stuck in everyone’s head due to its simple and repetitive lyrics and easy to follow dance moves. In 2018, #BabySharkChallenge became a viral trend on TikTok and in January of 2019, the song reached No.32 on the Billboard Hot 100, alongside Ariana Grande’s “Thank U, Next,” and Post Malone’s “Wow.”
The 2 minute video has over 2.2 billion views on YouTube and has the second most dislikes (15 million dislikes) on the platform in general, as things currently stand. The video has attracted so much attention worldwide and has even been translated into other languages! You may have noticed that the comments on this video have been turned off. This is because YouTube have now disabled comments on all videos which feature minors in order to protect and keep the younger community safe on the app. In case you’ve never heard the song, we’ve linked it below for your entertainment, enjoy!
The most disliked movie trailer
Released in August 2020, The “Sadak 2 | Official Trailer” by Fox Star Studios, is the video with the third most dislikes on YouTube. It used to be the second most disliked video until it was subsequently overtaken by none other than BabyShark! The Indian Hindi-language action thriller road film received a lot of bad reviews and according to the media in India, the outrage against the movie, taken out on its trailer, came from the controversial casting and a huge debate over nepotism in Bollywood. This resulted in 5.3 million dislikes for the trailer within two days of it being uploaded. As of 2022, the video now has over 14 million dislikes…Have a watch of the video below and let us know what you think.
The list goes on…
After the top 3 most disliked videos we mentioned, the list does unfortunately goe on. Both music videos and non-music videos have made the cut, though there seems to be more of a trend towards music videos being more unpopular. Do you agree with the below?

5. Johny Johny Yes Papa by LooLoo Kids (11.74 million dislikes, upload date October 8, 2016)

No more dislikes?
YouTube’s option to like or dislike videos has caused a lot of controversy in the past as it’s a very clear way of showing people’s opinion on a video. Because of this, it’s perhaps no surprise that YouTube decided to remove this functionality in 2021. Although the dislike button is still visible, the amount of dislikes cannot be seen by video viewers.
