2 stock x animation sales explainers for The Motion Picture Licensing Company. Produced, designed and animated by DreamingFish.

The client and the brief (UK & US animations)
The Motion Picture Licensing Company (MPLC) reached out to DreamingFish to create two sales animations for their UK and US markets, designed to become key marketing assets for the business. The core objective was to clearly explain the legal requirement for public performance licensing in a simple, engaging way, while showing how an MPLC Blanket Licence supports โcreatives and studiosโ through royalty payments.
The visuals needed to feature digital screens in a variety of everyday settings, including SMEs, doctorsโ surgeries, corporate offices, break rooms, gyms and reception areas. This approach helped demonstrate the versatility of the license across a range of real-world environments. To ensure all imagery remained compliant with licensing requirements, there were a few restrictions. We avoided screens featuring licensed sports content since it falls outside MPLCโs coverage.

Our approach
DreamingFish created a series of styleframes that showcased how the stock footage, brand elements and colours would interact with animations. Once MPLC approved the finalised styleframe, we began storyboarding. We prioritised the US animation as this was to be shown at an upcoming sales lick-off in LA. As soon as the storyboard was approved, we recorded the US voiceover, mixed the soundtrack and kicked off the animation phase.
Sourcing and finding the right stock footage proved to be one of the more challenging aspects of the project, due to licensing requirements. In a few of the scenes, we digitally replaced the content to ensure everything shown was both relevant and fully compliant with MPLCโs licensing guidelines. With the visuals in place, we fine-tuned the pacing of the overall animation, giving the voiceover more time to resonate with viewers. Once the US version was complete, we turned our attention to the UK version.
The UK version required a few amendments to reflect the differences in MPLCโs UK offering, meaning sections of the animation had to be adapted to ensure the messaging was accurate for the local audience. We also recorded a new voiceover with a UK voice artist to create a more authentic and relatable version for viewers. Thanks to careful planning and close collaboration throughout the production process, we were able to complete the revised animation on time, ensuring it was ready for the UK Sales kick-off in Eastbourne.

The final video
The animations were delivered successfully and received great feedback from the MPLC team. The US animation made a strong impression with MPLC’s CMO, stating it โplayed greatโ. It even received a standing ovation from attendees at the US sales kick-off. After the UK sales kick-off event, Head of Brand & Communications said the team had received โlots of great feedback about the video.โ
The positive response across both markets demonstrated the value of tailoring the content for each audience. This resulted in 2x sales animations that effectively communicated MPLCโs offering, while supporting their wider sales and marketing objectives. Check out the US animation below!
